Import spatial data to your Miradi project or program

Miradi users can create new spatial data for Miradi projects and programs, or import spatial data created in other systems as shapefiles. This article covers

Types of spatial data Miradi currently supports

Spatial data created in other systems must be saved as a zipped shapefile for import to Miradi Share, and the file must be less than 10MB. Supported geometry types include 'Polygon', 'MultiPolygon', 'Point', 'LineString'. If your file is larger than 10MB, you must break the file into multiple smaller files. 

Please note that we do not currently support shapefiles with elevation (z values) or route (m values) data. You must strip z-dimensions and m-dimensions from your shapefiles prior to zipping your shapefiles for import to Miradi.

You can strip the z-data from your file using QGIS, or other similar tools (note ArcGIS offers similar capabilities and more). In the example below, note that the 'Include z-dimension' box under Geometry Type is unchecked. Once exported, the resulting shapefile(s) should be zip'd for import into Miradi Share.

Import spatial data to a Miradi program

To import spatial data from other systems to your Miradi program, go to the Map page under PROGRAM OVERVIEW. Note that any boundaries for Miradi projects within your program will be visible in this program view. They can be tuned on/off but they can not be edited in this program view.

 

 

At the program level, you can 1) import shapefiles that define the boundary of your program or 2) import additional data layers for your program. Click "+" to either create data or import an existing shapefile.

 

 

In the spatial data editor, select Import and navigate to your zipped shapefile.

 

 

Review the data that has been imported and select Save.

 

 

Once you have imported and saved the data, editing tools allow you to add to or edit the imported data.

 

Import spatial data to a Miradi project

To import spatial data from another system to a Miradi project, navigate to PROJECT OVERVIEW > Map. 

 

 

Note that you can import or create new data for the following Miradi content: Project Boundary, Targets and Nested Targets, Threats, Strategies, and Activities. To import data, select the Miradi factor you would like to associate with the imported spatial data by selecting the check box next to the factor name. In the example below, any new data will be associated with the Coral Reefs target. Click Import, navigate to your zipped shapefile, and Save.
