Miradi projects created online can also be viewed and edited in Miradi Desktop. There are two ways to get a project out of Miradi Online and into Desktop. Depending on what you want to do, it is important to use the proper tool. As a general rule:
In the upper left corner of the Miradi project window you will see the status of the project (Checked-In or Checked-Out) and a set of buttons allowing you to Download or Check Out a project.
Download a project for VIEWING in Miradi Desktop
Downloading a project is generally used for viewing a project, not for editing. The primary reason is that you will not be able to check a downloaded project back into Miradi online - so any changes you make in Desktop can not be imported back into the project online. A downloaded project remains fully active online. Therefore, someone could make edits while you have the project downloaded.
Anyone with access to a Miradi project with Project Viewer permissions or higher has access to download the project. Downloading a project creates a zipped project file (.xmpz2) that can be opened in Miradi Desktop. All of the project content will be packaged up and available in Desktop once the file is imported to Desktop.
Important: When a project file is downloaded, the project online is not locked and is still fully editable by anyone with Project Editor permissions.
Downloading a project should be used to view projects only. It should not be used to edit projects in Desktop.
Check out a project for EDITING in Miradi Desktop
If you want to edit a project in Miradi Desktop, use the Check-out tool. When a project is checked out it is locked for editing online; the content will still be visible to anyone viewing the project online but no one will be able to edit the project.
